Postings we read (checked October 2026)

What fresher data analyst postings ask for

We read six public data analyst postings open to freshers in India, from Indeed India and TeamLease (October 2026; some have since expired). A skill counts when it is named anywhere in the posting: requirements, preferred skills or duties. Six postings are a small sample, so read it as a pattern, not a statistic.

  • 6/6Excel. Usually “advanced”: pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, conditional formatting, formulas.
  • 5/6SQL. Required in three; preferred or “a plus” in two. One spells out joins, aggregations and subqueries.
  • 5/6Power BI. Required in two; preferred or a plus in two; named as an example dashboard tool in one.
  • 4/6Data cleaning. Cleaning, transforming and validating data before analysis, as a duty or a skill.
  • 3/6Python. Required in two; “a strong advantage but not mandatory” in one (pandas, NumPy).
  • 3/6Power Query. Twice in the Excel requirements, once beside Power BI.
  • 2/6Tableau. Once as an alternative to Power BI, once in a longer list of tools.
  • 1/6DAX. With Power BI, in the posting that asks for the most tools.

Five of the six name a degree: three ask for or prefer a bachelor’s, often in a quantitative or business field, and two list degrees such as BCA, BBA or B.Tech. Several also asked for attention to detail and for explaining numbers clearly to people who aren’t analysts. Excel was the one skill every posting named, often as the main tool. Sources are listed at the end of the example below.

How to write the sections

Summary: two lines saying what you are (a fresher with your degree and year), the tools you use, and your strongest piece of evidence. Skip “seeking a challenging position”: it says what you want, not what you offer.

Education: near the top for a fresher, with your CGPA or percentage as your university awards it.

Internship and projects: this is where skills are proved. Each bullet names the tool, the data and what changed. A public dataset is fine; say that it is one.

Skills: grouped and short, using the names postings use (SQL, Power BI, Power Query, DAX). Every skill here should also appear in a bullet above.

Before and after: the same facts, written to prove

The first draft of Meera’s resume had the same internship and projects, written as duties. The rewrite changes no fact: it adds what she did, with which tool, and what came of it, using figures she knows.

BeforeResponsible for writing SQL queries for sales reports.

AfterWrote SQL queries with joins, aggregations and window functions on 1.2 lakh monthly sales rows to build the weekly report for 18 stores.

Names the SQL a posting asks about and gives the scale. Every figure is one Meera knows from her internship.

BeforeWorked on Power BI dashboard.

AfterBuilt a Power BI dashboard with Power Query and 9 DAX measures that replaced a 3-hour manual Excel report with a scheduled refresh.

Shows Power Query and DAX in use, and what changed for the team.

BeforeDid data cleaning in Excel.

AfterCleaned customer data for a loyalty campaign: checked 9,000 records in Excel with XLOOKUP and pivot tables and removed 640 duplicates.

Proves “advanced Excel” with the functions postings name, instead of claiming it.

In Resumeize a line like this enters your resume only from your own words or an answer you confirm. If a posting asks for something you haven’t shown, you get a short question; if the honest answer is no, nothing is added.

How Resumeize scores this example

We built a short posting from the requirements above (7 key and 5 nice to have: SQL, Advanced Excel, Pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Power BI, Data cleaning, Dashboards, Power Query, DAX, Python, Statistics, Tableau) and ran both drafts through the app’s scorer, with code-only matching (not the live AI evidence step). These are the numbers it gave for this example:

Before

ATS100

Recruiter75

After

ATS100

Recruiter99

The posting was built from the same requirements the example was written for, so full coverage is expected: the ATS score is the same because both drafts name every tool it asks for. The recruiter score rose from 75 to 99 because of the bullets: bullet specificity went from 4.4 to 25 of 25 (each bullet now carries a figure), and scannability from 5.8 to 10 of 10 (each bullet runs 8 to 30 words).

A high score here means the resume shows what this posting asks, in a file software reads cleanly. It doesn’t predict a shortlist, and a real posting will almost always ask for something you haven’t done. Paste yours to see your own numbers; every weight is on our methodology page.

Questions people ask

How long should a data analyst fresher resume be?
One page. With a degree, an internship or two and two or three projects, everything useful fits, and the top third of the page can show your strongest evidence for the job.
Should I put my CGPA on a fresher resume?
Yes, in the form your university awards it, such as CGPA 8.2/10, next to the degree. Many campus and fresher postings set a CGPA cut-off. Add your Class XII percentage if a posting asks for it or if it is strong.
I have no internship. What goes in the experience section?
Projects. Give each one a name, the tools you used and two bullets on what you analysed and what you found, with real figures such as the number of rows or the accuracy you reached. A Kaggle or public dataset is fine if you say so.
Do certifications like Google Data Analytics help?
They show you learned the tools, but a project that uses SQL or Power BI proves more than a certificate that lists them. Keep certifications in their own short section below your projects.
Should I list every tool I have touched?
List the tools you can use in an interview task. A recruiter will ask about anything on the page, and a skill named only in your skills list, with no project or bullet that uses it, tells a reader little about how well you know it.
